The Swan Hill Regional Library is proud to present an author talk with Noel Braun, next Wednesday, 1 August.
Noel Braun is an advocate for suicide awareness and prevention.
Since the suicide of his beloved wife of forty-two years Maris, Noel struggled to find himself. All his life assumptions were over-turned and he lost his sense of identity.
Endeavouring to find some anchorage, he embarked on a spiritual journey of self-discovery. He decided to walk the popular routes of the Camino: the ancient pilgrimage route that leads across France and Spain to Santiago de Compostela. He described this journey in is his book ‘The Day Was Made For Walking’.
He then took two more Camino journeys, but following different and less popular routes. And along these routes less travelled, he encountered some truly fascinating people.
These journeys and encounters are detailed in Noel’s most recent book, ‘I Guess I’ll Just Keep On Walking’. This sequel to his earlier book is where the spiritual and physical merge with the ancient and modern. It delves into history and, at the same time, is a memoir and travel guide.
Noel undertook these pilgrimages in his late 70’s and early 80’s and last year, at the age of 84, he embarked on a fifth journey – which will perhaps be the subject of a future book.
Swan Hill is nostalgic for Noel as he began his work career teaching at Kooloonong in 1953-54 and visited Swan Hill for shopping. Noel’s book ‘Friend and Philosopher’ is based on that experience.
To learn more about Noel and his search for meaning, join us for an author talk at the library.
